The Ultimate Pre-Ride Checklist for Kawasaki Owners

Before every ride, a quick walk-around can catch small problems before they become big ones. This checklist takes less than 5 minutes and could save your life. Make it a habit – you will be glad you did.

T-CLOCS: The Standard Pre-Ride Check

The motorcycle industry uses a handy acronym called T-CLOCS to cover all the basics. Here is what to look for:

T – Tires and Wheels

  • Check tire pressure (cold pressure, per your manual)
  • Look for cuts, bulges, or embedded objects in the tread
  • Spin the wheel and check for wobbles
  • Make sure the axle nuts are tight

C – Controls

  • Squeeze the front and rear brake levers – they should feel firm
  • Throttle should snap back when released
  • Clutch lever should feel smooth with proper free play
  • Check all cables for fraying or kinks

L – Lights and Electrics

  • Test headlight (high and low beam)
  • Test brake light (both front and rear brake)
  • Test turn signals front and rear
  • Check that your horn works

O – Oil and Other Fluids

  • Check engine oil level on the sight glass
  • Check coolant level (if applicable to your model)
  • Check brake fluid in reservoir – should be clear or slightly yellow
  • Look under the bike for any fresh drips or leaks

C – Chassis

  • Look for any cracks or damage to the frame
  • Check that mirrors are adjusted and secure
  • Make sure your kickstand retracts fully
  • Check footpegs are tight and not bent

S – Stands

  • Make sure the kickstand spring is working and it folds up while riding
  • If your bike has a center stand, make sure it is fully retracted before riding

One Last Thing Before You Go

Always suit up in proper gear – helmet, jacket, gloves, boots. No shortcuts there. Stay safe out there, and enjoy every mile on your Kawasaki.
